As such, we have listened to our valued staff members and offer over 25 days holiday annually to allow you to strike the perfect work/life balance.

As well as offering 27 to 33 days annual leave, we also offer the opportunity to purchase an extra 10 days, applicable any time of year so that you can spend time with your loved ones and take advantage of the many fantastic sights and attractions in the surrounding areas.

2. Endless opportunities to experience the outdoors

Cwm Taf UHB is surrounded by beautiful countryside, rugged beaches and just a stones-throw from the Brecon Beacons, providing an array of opportunities for adventure and fun with your family.

Why not take a picnic to eat on Pen-y-fan, one of the most popular walks of the Brecon Beacons, only a short drive from our Prince Charles Hospital and Keir Hardie Health Park in Merthyr Tydfil. Or explore the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Trail, which offers nine miles of scenic coastline and award- winning beaches.

The Heritage Coastline is also a haven for water sports enthusiasts with surfing, rock climbing, swimming, and sailing on offer. However, if you’d rather relax next to a log fire and indulge your love of locally sourced food, then there are plenty of lovely coastal pubs and cafes to enjoy a relaxing family meal or a hot chocolate located near Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

There’s also excellent safe cycling on the Taff Trail, perfect for an afternoon bike ride, with plenty of bike hire facilities. Or, for something a bit more extreme, BikePark Wales offers mountain biking for beginners and pros alike.

In a bid to ease your worries, we offer creche facilities at selected Cwm Taf UHB sites, which allow you to focus on your professional duties safe in the knowledge that your little ones are being cared for on site.

Flexible working hours are also on offer, to ensure staff can spend quality time with their children through the week, and also to enable them to work effectively to around a partner’s working hours. There are also plenty of childcare facilities in the local areas, such as Pilli Pala, a bi-lingual day nursery close to our hospital and health centre in Merthyr Tydfil.

Cwm Taf UHB’s hospitals are located in some of the most vibrant and breath-taking areas of Wales.

Our capital city, Cardiff is just a short drive from many of our hospitals, with Pontypridd, Merthyr Tydfil, and Llantrisant providing bustling local shopping havens and family days out.

There’s no shortage of family activities in Cardiff, from exploring the castle to getting some retail therapy in St. David’s Shopping Centre. And food lovers will be spoilt for choice, with everything from popular chains to boutique eateries in Cardiff’s beautiful arcades.

The Bay also offers a fantastic family day out from grabbing breakfast at a waterside café, to visiting the Doctor Who Experience or discovering science at Techniquest.

Surrounding areas including Brecon, Merthyr, Pontypridd and Llantrisant provide a varied blend of boutique shopping opportunities along with fun days out for the family. Brecon’s bustling town centre features Georgian architecture and boutique shops, which can be explored along the Captain’s Walk where you can see the remains of Brecon’s medieval walls.

Merthyr also has a host of unique family-friendly attractions, with opportunities to visit the Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery, and CyfarthfaPark and Miniature Railway. While a visit to Rhondda Heritage Park and the Lewis Merthyr Colliery will allow you to take a step back into Wales’s rich mining history.

While Pontypridd offers a wealth of family-friendly activities including Rhondda Heritage Park, and the Royal Mint Experience. Wherever you travel there is always something to entertain and educate the little ones while spending some quality family time together.
