The department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology aims to provide a complete programme of advice and treatment to women requiring a wide range of both general and specialist care throughout their lives, from birth until after menopause, with triage and redirection of those patients more properly treated elsewhere.

We aim to deliver the highest standards of care for maternity, sexual health, gynaecology and a range of acute and community children’s services. The Division is a Centre of Excellence for Women’s and Children’s services and has a credible and enviable reputation. We deliver thousands of babies and carry around thousands of gynaecological procedures each year, making us a specialist provider of health services for women, babies and their families in the Cwm Taf Health Board.

Working alongside Consultant Obstetricians and Registrar’s based at the Acute Maternity department at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital, you will be required to work in all sites across the Health Board including Ysbwty Cwm Rhondda and Ysbwty Cwm Cynon hospitals.

Participation in outpatient clinics for both new and follow up patients and preparation for and participation in operating lists in both day case and main theatres will be part of your role.

  • Medical Disorders in Pregnancy
  • Infertility
  • Colposcopy – laser & loop
  • Community Gynaecology (Menopause and Pregnancy Advisory Clinic, Termination of pregnancy, Family Planning)
  • Obstetric USS + amniocentesis
  • One stop clinic OP Hysteroscopy / TV scanning
  • EPAU
  • Urogynaecology

We hold education and audit meetings weekly and have strong links with the University Hospital of Wales with Medical Students rotating through the department. Clinical research and audit is not only encouraged, but expected. Where possible, sessions are allocated to undertake research and/or private study with at least one supporting professional activity session being provided on a weekly basis.
