The Paediatric Department in Cwm Taf University Health Board (CTUHB) is currently undergoing new and exciting changes. A team of highly motivated and forward thinking individuals are implementing changes in all aspects of the service: a new Neonatal Unit is currently being built in PCH, the Acute Paediatric Service is undergoing change with all inpatient Acute Paediatric patients being in PCH and a Paediatric Assessment Unit in RGH, a new Neurodevelopment Service is being established and the Community Service strengthened.

A team of 20 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist and 5 Staff Grades provide not only excellent care for patients and families but an ideal environment to learn about common childhood problems. Consultants with special interests delivering joint care with visiting Consultants from Tertiary Centres provide an opportunity to gain experience in complex cases e.g. cardiac, endocrine and neurological.

Trainees and Medical students are based in CTUHB. The teaching programme is well developed with 3 formal teaching sessions each week. All staff are expected to attend and present in these meetings, participation in audit is actively encouraged. Regular Clinical Governance meetings and Trigger List meetings are an informative way to review cases and learn constructively from difficult cases.
